Biography

Matt Burreson is the Chief Geophysicist at Occidental Oil and Gas (Oxy) which is an international energy company, based in Houston, with activity mainly focused in the United States, Middle East, and North Africa. He joined Oxy in 2007, and in his current role, he is responsible for oversight of all geophysical technical work, staff movements, career progression, and a member of the reserves review team.

Prior to his current position, Matt held roles as Vice President of Abu Dhabi Exploration, Middle East Exploration Manager, and a seismic interpreter in various technical roles across Oxy’s global portfolio. He started his career at ExxonMobil, where he was a member of the Geophysical Applications Group from 2002 to 2007.

Matt earned a BS in Geology with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Iowa in 1999. In 2001, he earned an MS in Geoscience from the University of Iowa in 2001 while studying with his thesis advisor, Tom Foster.

Matt resides in Decorah, Iowa with his wife, two daughters, and a goldendoodle.
