Chen Xiong, a PhD student in SEES’s Sustainability, Hydrogeophysics, Imaging, & Prediction (SHIP) Lab, advised by Assistant Professor Hang Chen, has received travel support from the Critical Zone Network of Networks (CZ-NON). He will present his research at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting 2025, held December 15–19 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Critical Zone Network of Networks (CZ-NON) is an international project that endeavors to guide the future of global Critical Zone (CZ) research. At AGU, Chen will present “Quantifying Regolith and Fractured Bedrock Contributions to Streamflow using a Geophysics-Informed Hydrologic Model and Particle Tracking.” His study combines geophysical imaging with hydrologic modeling to understand how subsurface structures control water movement. The $1,725 award will help cover conference registration and travel. It may also support Chen’s participation in the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026. AGU’s annual meeting is one of the world’s largest gatherings of Earth and space scientists. Each year it attracts more than 25,000 participants from over 100 countries.
